The Rio de Janeiro court questioned, on Thursday (10/9), the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation, Ricardo Teixeira, and the owner of the Planeta Brasil tourism agency, Wagner José Abrahão. They are accused of crimes against the economic order and consumer relations because the company was the only one to obtain authorization from the CBF to sell tickets for the World Cup. Both denied the accusations. According to the MP's complaint, Planeta Brasil only sold tickets for the games if the customer also bought plane tickets to Germany, where the championship took place. Furthermore, according to the complaint, Wagner Abrahão increased the price of the tourist package without justifying the reason and took advantage of his dominant position in the market.
During interrogation, at the 14th Criminal Court in Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Teixeira stated that more than 800 tourism agencies throughout Brazil were registered with Planeta Brasil to sell tickets. “Selling tickets in Germany was quite complex, as the government of that country was concerned about security and required identification from each fan who entered the stadium to watch the Honduras Mobile Number List games,” he said. We offered five different packages for the World Cup, and prices ranged from 3,000 to 11,000 euros. CBF did not receive any amount from ticket sales,” he stated.
According to him, fans had three ways to get a ticket: through a draw carried out on the official website of the International Football Federation (FIFA), invitations from sponsors or by purchasing from National Federations, in the case of Brazil, the CBF . “And, nowadays, fan customers are receiving the amounts they paid for tickets to games in which Brazil stopped participating,” he highlighted. Adjustment or alliance between suppliers, aimed at artificially fixing prices or quantities sold or produced; and controlling, to the detriment competition, distribution network or suppliers); item VII (raising the price of goods or services without just cause, taking advantage of a dominant position in the market); and article 5, item II (subordinating the sale of a good or the use of a service to the acquisition of another good, or the use of a certain service), all with article 12 (with serious harm to the community) of Law 8,137/90, which defines crimes against the tax, economic order and consumer relations.
